Try to boot into Windows XP Safe Mode (pressing the F8 key BEFORE the Windows XP logo shows). Sometimes that takes pressing the F8 key almost constantly (but not enough to bring up a keyboard error). If you CAN boot into Safe Mode, open Windows Explorer or My Computer, and copy the files that you want.
